Conquering...

The word "conquer" means by definition to successfully overcome (a problem or weakness). It's a word easily spoken but consistently one of the hardest task to implement. If we think of history's greatest conquerors, we think in terms of taking control of a place or people with formidable armies, weapons and ideologies. I sometimes think this task is much easier than conquering something as intrinsic as our own fears and weaknesses.

I struggle with conquering my personal demons everyday. Like you, there are days when my mind is filled with a "to do" list that includes choices and decisions I'd rather not face. These are usually at the bottom of my task list, and often moved to the next day. If I believe it's really insurmountable in my head it can move to the next month or year (I conveniently forget).

But for me, being a business leader, I've learned that difficult decisions must be made everyday, on point without remorse or second thought. My  business decisions have effected personal lives, families, careers even our company's bottom line. But those decisions had to be made, those fears had to be conquered. But dealing with my personal decisions became an emotional ordeal. Not wanting to hurt those dear to me, accepting things I could not change, failing professionally, being perceived outside of my true self - these are things I struggle with, things I'm learning to conquer through prayer and perseverance.

I believe God wants us to be our best selves, to offer from within only what is at peace and confirmed through prayer, thought and meditation. We all struggle with our weaknesses, faults and insecurities. God knows each of us well. What we hide from others He can see and sometimes, if we permit, help us to learn, understand, forgive and eventually conquer, be it a person, place, emotion or thought. I have watched Him work through others, and certainly through me.

Romans 8:37

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Revelation 3:21

The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne
