In Our Feelings...

I tell you what Believers, this past month has been one for the record books in my house! If you’re like me this economy is swinging so weird, I don’t know whether to save an extra dollar, sell items I haven’t used in years, donate in hopes of an existential blessing, or seek out a better telepathic method to speak directly with the Lord! Along with my stress level, prices for everyday living seem to be all over the place and not in our favor!

I’m torn between disappointment in my online retail sales, exhaustion with my contracted business clients, and worry for my staff who repeatedly look to me for unanswerable economic and trending questions. There are days like you, I find myself asking is God really listening!?” And if so, where is the relief? Another catastrophe and I’m turning in my faith card! We as Believers don’t deserve the shenanigans we’ve suffered via our economy, politics, religion, etc. – everything is a mess! So today let’s just say we’re all “in our feelings.”

The unique phrase to be “in your feelings” means to be in a vulnerable, receptive, and expressive (or inexpressive) emotional and psychological state of mind. In most cases, it’s a state that’s inconsolable, inexpressive, highly emotional, and sometimes fearful. We all go through it at some time. As long as we’re breathing nobody gets a “pass” from life, ergo the biblical phrase “This too shall pass”. But getting there can be an issue. Relying on God to walk us through, as we remain steadfast in faith can be emotionally draining.

But I want to encourage you and let you know you’re not alone. Many believers suffer with doubt (remember Peter and Thomas?) and dark nights. For me when I find myself in this headspace I always look back at the mountains and valleys I’ve already walked thru and like you have learned that when He’s called upon the comfort, relief, courage, strength, and hope we seek may not be within the hour, possibly not even within the day or week, but we know He’s always stepping in at the perfect moment.

So how do we unburden the stress? How do we get out of “our feelings?” We can’t. We are all human and suffer human fallacies. But the blessing is knowing that God understands. Even though we experience fear, weakness, and all the other traits that sometimes make us question our belief, and shake our faith, and evaporate our strength, God understands our hearts and feelings. That’s why we Believers are in constant prayer and fellowship with God. We know what strengths and comfort we gain through faith and good work. We continue to smile when all about is chaos. People may ask “how can you smile when the world is falling apart?” Here is where we begin to offer our testimony. Reliving every adventure, peril, and misstep God has brought you through. You begin to get so animated recanting your miracles and blessings until the spirit of the Lord becomes infectious! Praise God! We are now surely “in our feelings.” Amen…

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus
